Coworking is better than a coffee shop which with their free wi-fi culture has exploded over the past 2 or 3 years. Using a dedicated coworking space is a better option.  Here we give you ten reasons to prove this.

Coworking is the places to get down to business

  1. Coworking is better as the desks are much more substantial.  You have more space to spread out and see your work.
  2. You can go to the toilet without worrying about leaving your belongings or taking them with you,  Do this in a coffee shop and you probably lose your space.
  3. The environment is full of people working. There is not the annoying noise distraction of shoppers, children or noisy groups of lunchers.  This means that coworking is better for avoiding distractions.
  4. The Wi-Fi is excellent and robust and still included.  Coworking is better and ensuring the network is secure.
  5. If you sit for 8 hours in a coffee shop, you would consume on average three drinks,  More is you are buying for a guest you are meeting. Just buying drinks could cost you upwards of £12 per day. In a coworking space you get all your tea and coffee (and biscuits!) included in the price, even for your potential customer or interviewee.
  6. Kudos – how good does it look to meet your future top customer or new employee in a coffee shop? Compare this with meeting them at your business address which has a host waiting for them and a great looking lounge to meet in.
  7. Coworking is better if you want to use this space as your business address.  You can’t have your mail delivered to your local coffee shop!
  8. If you go out to meetings when using a coffee shop, you have to take everything with you.  At Workplace, you can put your computer and your bags in a locker and take what you need.  Coworking is better for security.
  9. Can you bike to your coffee shop, securely store it and have a shower before work?  You can at Workplace.
  10. Networking – it is rare to strike up a conversation in a coffee shop with a stranger.  In a coworking space, this can be with someone who can help you and your business.  Maybe you can help them,  this happens all the time in coworking space.

Coworking is better at Workplace even if it is just a day pass.

Many coworking spaces also offer an option to take a dedicated desk.  Reserving a desk means that you have the same desk each time you come to work. Nobody will have got to the office before you and sat in your favourite space!

Starting your life as a coworker, you might find the best option is to take a hot desk membership.  The hot desk allows you to work in a variety of places to see which area works best for you.  The time may come, however, when you decide that you don’t want to take a chance on your favourite seat being taken and want to know where you will be sitting each day.  A dedicated Desk may be the option.

What are the pros and cons of a dedicated desk?

Pros

  1. Dedicated desks give you more privacy.
  2. You can leave your work, including desktop computers and extra monitors at a dedicated desk.
  3. Dedicated desks come with a locking file cabinet for valuables.
  4. Need a specific chair – you can provide your own.
  5. You can personalise your workspace.
  6. You have your reserved space in an area you like to work.
  7. You can also work in the lounge area or meet people in the lounge when needed.
  8. You’re still part of the coworking community.
  9. You can attend networking events in the space.
  10. The area is quieter for phone calls or getting your head down to business.
  11. There are not so many distractions from other workers.
  12. You can group several dedicated desks if you want to work with colleagues.
  13. You can often have a landline phone or wired computer in this space.
  14. You have all the amenities a coworking space provides, including a kitchen area, unlimited tea and coffee, printer and shredding services, reception and hosting services.

Cons of a Dedicated Desk in a Coworking Space

  1. Dedicated desks can be away from common space and collaborative area and so quieter.
  2. You’ll potentially have less social interaction at a dedicated desk versus working in the common area
  3. Dedicated desks are more expensive than flexible membership
  4. You’ll work next to the same people every day, rather than making new connections
  5. They are full-time rentals, which means when you are not there, you still pay wherein a coworking space you can often pay for the days you use.
