A reserved desk or dedicated desk is a desk or space in a co-working environment which is just for you. At workplace you will have your own dedicated booth, desk, filing cabinet and lamp within an open plan area.

A reserved desk is often a great transition step between hot desking and getting your own private office. So what are the advantage between these two options and is it the right time to consider this as an option?

What are the benefits of a reserved desk vs hot desking?

  • Consistency

There is nothing worse than making your way to the office, heading over to your favourite spot but it has been taken by somewhere else. If you find yourself always choosing the same spot in the open plan area. If having to decide where to sit each day stresses you out. Then maybe a dedicated desk could be you.

  • Familiarity & personalisation

Having your own space means you can make you’re your own a little. If you need to feel at home in your workplace this could be ideal for you. Pictures of loved ones, holiday snaps to give you some drive through the day. Industry magazines or being able to spread out your array of stationary. Whatever your style of working is; messy or clean, clinical or personal you will have a dedicated space to make sure it stay just how you like it. No one will sit in or use your space.

  • Logistics

If you have a lot of things you need in order to get your job done then a dedicated desk is ideal. The filing cabinet storage means you don’t have to lug those books, papers, stationary etc, back and forth between home and the office each day. It might be a simple thing but it can make all the difference!

  • Privacy

A dedicated desk provides just that extra bit of privacy compared to hot desking. If from time to time you will need to be dealing with sensitive information or if the thought of people seeing your screen makes you nervous then a dedicated desk could be the solution

What are the benefits of a reserved desk vs a home or private office?

  • Social & Networking opportunities

Sitting in an open plan office means there is a bit of a buzz rather than being by yourself in a home office or private office. You will be exposed to people from a range of different companies each day. These may even be complimentary to your business and provide opportunities to do business together

  • Cost

For one man bands or small groups of co-workers a few adjacent dedicated desks could be a cost effective solution for those who can’t quite afford an office yet. It means that you are guaranteed to be able to sit together and you can swap between members or staff as you need to.

  • Flexibility

For companies which have premises elsewhere but needs a city centre base for staff then dedicated desk could be the perfect solution. You will always have the space dedicated to your company but they can be used by anyone who is in town.

Member Neha Atherton of June Studios, shares her thoughts on why Workplace was the right choice for her. Over to Neha . .

When we started out in April this year we knew a city centre base was key for us. We weren’t ready to take on a full private office but we wanted somewhere professional we could meet clients. We looked at a number of co-working spaces but Workplace was definitely the one for us for four key reasons:

The concierge style service

Jane, Louise and Adrian (the founders of workplace) come from a hospitality background. Their experience running large, successful hotels really shows in the level of service they provide. At Workplace you get so much more than just a co-working space. You are made to feel special and important as are your clients.  The space is professional and people get serious work done but they also add in treats like cake Wednesdays, cheese and wine nights, quiz nights, strawberries and cream for Wimbledon, pumpkin treats for Halloween, all the extracurricular benefits you would get in a large company come with the package of just being a member at workplace.

The style and ambience

For us the ambience of Workplace just felt right. The style fits so well with our company identity and is comfortable and professional for our clients to meet in. Compared to some other sites we visited, it feel much more high-end and professional whilst still being approachable. The staff and other members are really friendly which is important to us and to our clients.

The location & parking

Workplace could not be better positioned! St. Peter Square tram stop is only 5 mins walk and Piccadilly and Oxford road train stations 10 and 5 mins respectively. It makes it easy for both us and our clients to reach no matter which part of town of the country we are coming from. On days when we do decide to drive the discounted parking rates of £7.50 per day can really make a difference as the cost of parking in the city can really add up!

Events

It is easy to arrange corporate events, team building days and launch nights at Workplace. The team are attentive in assisting the organisation, catering and making sure that all guest at the event in are well take care of. Simple things like a coat rack area make the difference. Whether hiring the business lounge for a networking event, the boardroom for presentation meetings or a combination of the two for a team building activities Workplace has always been able to accommodate us.

Choosing any office space whether for hot desking, dedicated desk or private office is a very personal choice. The factors which made Workplace right for us are definitely unique to Workplace and they are why we now call it home.
